Hello sOLARsOUND! I'm back and I have a special mix today. I have noticed that none of the artists on this show (including myself) have rarely delved into the mechanical and ominous world of techno. Of course, most of the mixes that have aired have played maybe one or two minimal tracks; however this mix will be an exception. I am a huge techno fanatic despite my primary genre focuses being deep and tech house. Thus, this episode will give examples of the dark, atmospheric, heavy and sometimes even evil tracks that have been on repeat on my iTunes the past few weeks. Crank up and enjoy my friends!

The sOLARsOUND podcast is back from a brief hiatus with a guest mix from a new talent, Andrea Nazarian from Toronto, Ontario. Andrea proves that experience is not a prerequisite for playing an amazing set. Furthermore, Andrea was kind and brave enough to record a segment of her live set from her Muse Magazine launch party in Kingston for us. You can find more details about that publication here: https://www.facebook.com/museatqueens
I am very happy that the podcast finally has had a female DJ on for a guestmix. It is unfortunate that EDM in general is overwhelmingly made-up of male artists. Andrea's mix is a testament to the fact that female DJs are exceptionally talented in-lieu of that demographic. We look forward to having more female DJs, like Andrea, featured on the podcast in the near future! In the meantime, expect more quality mixage from Andrea on her Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/chesterhare
On a side note or two, for those of you in Toronto, I will be launching a new deep house and minimal tech night at Bang Bang Bar on College Street. More details on the event can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/144159409095433/?fref=ts
If you think your mix would fit with the podcast, please fire it off to my dropbox here: http://soundcloud.com/chesterhare/dropbox/profile
I will listen and get back to you.

Terribly sorry about not uploading an episode last week. i was busy finishing up my new track "Dead Stars, Lost At Sea" https://soundcloud.com/chesterhare/dead-stars-lost-at-sea and did not have time to make a mix.
Today's mix is one hour of pure old school awesomeness sent to me by one of the most talented DJs I know. The mix has a Miami Beach circa 1988 vibe that I know you will love. Regardless, this is certainly the most eclectic mix SolarSound has aired. Enis plays everything from nudisco to future garage to deep house to progressive house with lots of retro rave tracks in between; demonstrating his knowledge of great music and dynamic djing abilities. Please download, listen, and share!

Hard to believe that Solarsound podcast is entering its second month. So far, I have been nothing but impressed with the guest mixes and look forward to hosting featuring the best and brightest DJs in the near future. Moreover, I have noticed and incredible increase in listenership, sometimes jettisoning the podcast into the top 100 house podcasts when a new episode is posted.
I have decided to change things up for this episode. It is fantastic that the majority of guests have played deep, soulful, groovy, and classic sounding deep house and garage tunes that are my personal favourite. However, the podcast has recently broken its own (self-imposed) barriers by featuring ambient, electronica, and those wobbly and fidgety techno basslines that are getting massively popular in underground parties around the world as well. Nonetheless, I realized that tech and tribal heads, who are fed only by complex and layered drum patterns and funky basslines, have been snubbed from the podcast. I have prepared this mix especially for them.
I have always rebelled against the big-room or "main-room" sound; but, in truth, sometimes a crowd just wants to go nuts. These are the tunes I would play in any such event.
N.B. I am sorry that I am not up-to-date on the newest tech-house. Regardless, this mix includes some of the biggest anthems techies have flocked to hear for the past year or 2. Enjoy!

"I was pretty conflicted making this mix....one the one hand I wanted to make a chill, deep, mix but I had amassed a pretty awesome collection of bass-y tunes that I couldn't not share. So, the first half of this mix will lull you into a false sense of security before giving you a swift kick in the ass, a la 808." - van k
This week's Solarsound session comes courtesy of my friend and labelmate Neopolis aka Pierre Georges of Lyon, France. After listening, I have to say that this is the mix not to miss if you subscribe to my podcast.
Pierre was kind enough to give us some insight into not only this mix, but also his artistic method, gear and impressions on the international cutting-edge EDM music community. What follows is the transcript from a very brief interview; best read whilst listening to his mix.
1) Describe the mix you made for us today.
I recorded it at home on a peaceful sunny afternoon, while drinking some wine. My first idea was to make something really different, a classical music mix or something like that; but my sound is house and i simply decided to stick to it. It is mostly made of records i can't play at night. But most importantly, i wanted something reflecting my actual state of mind. There's more than an idea behind the mix, there's someone. It is about deepness, about dreaming and above all about introversion and melancholy.
2) You might fairly be described as a deep house DJ/producer. How would you describe your specific interpretation of that genre?
I'd rather define myself as a house music lover. My interpretation of dance music is calling the more sensitive and soulful part of everyone. I am not really fond of the idea of being tied up by only one specific type of music. In fact, it's something I try to avoid when i'm producing. I think this is a reason why a large part of released today are boring.
3) How do you know when on of your tracks are finished?
I never know when a track is finished. We are two, producing and spending a lot of time lost in it, in reworking each track several time.
4) What do you strive for in your DJ set?
Three things: make the people dance, make them happy, and playing banging tracks I love.
5) What does your DJ setup look like? Likewise what equipment do you use for producing?
Two mkII turntables, vinyls and traktor. Nothing more basic. For production, it's much more a question of money than the expression of my lack of material interest. I'm using Ableton Live since years, classical synth tools, and a few midi synth. I'm also very fond of sampling.
6) You've lived in and travelled to a lot of places it seems. Is there any one city you've that stands out as having an exceptional scene for underground house music?
Well, i think it's much more an European thing, something deeply rooted in the European culture. I have of course my favourites places: Renate and Panorama in Berlin, Hive Club in Zurich, Concrete in Paris, Club Transbo in Lyon ...

This week's mix is a one hour session of my own. This mix is a little different than previous Solarsound episodes in lieu of its eclectic playlist. I wanted to focus on newer, cutting-edge fusion genres of house music including fidget, UK funky, UK bass, and UK garage. Interestingly enough, these genres all incorporate a little something from deep or tech house. Therefore, I felt it most fitting to play these tunes for you. Hope you enjoy!

Bio:
Canadian born DJ/producer Chester Hare (aka Adrian Chowanec) developed an obsession with electronic music early age, attempting to emulate the sounds of such acts as the Chemical Brothers, Moby, CJ Bolland, the Crystal Method and Josh Wink in his early teens. Since then he has shifted his focus to house music and produced his first single at the age of 22. Shortly after completion of his first track, Chester took up DJing. He adopted an unorthodox, highly technical, and ambitious DJ technique involving long edits, excessive layering, and a mashup-bootleg modus operandi, not typically seen in the deep house world.
While his primary interests are deep house and minimal techno, Chester does not confine himself to any particular genre or subgenre. His sets range from wonky and dissonant UK bass to the occasional splash of grimey electro with lots of soulful and funky tech house in between. Likewise, the production aspect of Chester's portfolio is unpredictable, open minded, and experimental.
